Tanzania & Zanzibar

a.w.a. = africa wins again!

dar es salaam airport is warm and humid & it takes around an hour to get your $50's worth of visa. after a good wait we recovered most of our luggage and were very happy to meet craig and the rest of the tanzacat welcome crowd. well done for the banner, airport transfer & the cold beers boys!

i'm up in dar es salaam for the annual tanzacat regatta (www.tanzacat.org) which involves 11 races around the cans and a sail to zanzibar and back. the sailing's been going well and yesterday we took line honours in the 2 afternoon races. finally on form after a bit of fumbling around on day 1. on overall ranking we're the 2nd tiger in the fleet.

today we crossed the channel in 2.5hrs to zanzibar. a nice open ocean sail, but a bit of extra wind would have helped. we beached in the south west of the island and then bussed to stone town. wow, what an amazing trip - you get the real african feeling here. now we have 2 days off: time for diving and the tourist thing. then back to dar via sand island and then some more racing around the cans. sunday will see us taking tigger apart and loading the container.

sorry, no pics at the moment.
